Failed migration.
Filmed for Voice of America's 52 Documentary series, The Failed Migration follows Javid Karezi, a sixth-generation Afghan singer silenced when the Taliban banned music in August 2021. Forced out of Kabul, he moved his family to Quetta in search of a stage and a future.
Eight months in Quetta brought language barriers and few chances to perform. Unable to support his family, Javid returned to Kabul and a life without music. An intimate portrait of what displacement takes from an artist.
